103. Anime has devolved into the most inane and pandering medium in the history of artistic expression. Osamu Tezuka pioneered the use of manga/anime as a legitimate art form and then later it's been subverted it into a lurid circus of fetishes and violence. The few actually good anime are exceptions rather than some rule.

tl;dr I really wouldn't judge anyone who dismisses the medium. And I am an anime fan.

nothing wrong with enjoying it, I love anime like that myself. but at the same time I realize it's actually pure crap and I wouldn't rage at someone for not understanding its artistic depth or whatever.

If it's enjoyable, it doesn't need artistic depth. The purpose is to entertain after all, not to make us question the meaning of life.

You can apply this to virtually every other medium. Anime is doing what other mediums do, make what the people want to see, nothing more or less. It's a business first and foremost, then an art form.

I don't care if people dismiss the medium, I get pissed off if they dismiss it out of hand. Especially if they're judging the entire medium based on the 4Kids dub of something their 8 year old cousin watches.

I think Osamu Tezuka is incredibly overrated. It's not like everything he did was a masterpiece just because he's the "father of anime". And to say that every anime made since then has declined in value is, to put it bluntly, entirely false. Everyone knows that the 1980s was the "golden age" of anime.
