Reading the other comments, I have the feeling you are asking people to respect her orientation, without actually respecting the other characters orientations in fandom.

That is, in my humbly opinion, prejudice. You're asking people to cast her apart and respect her orientation only because she's a lesbian.

I will stop discussing that with you since we have complete opposite points of view... I'm deeply sorry you felt so insulted, it seems this matter is more serious for you than it is for me, probably because I see them as characters unrelated to their real counterparts (or I wouldn't write RPF).

Maybe I didn't make myself clear: I see a separation between the written character and the real person who inspired the character.

I don't know, I have to say... I wouldn't use those outside world rules on shipping in fandom, seriously. That's where I totally disagree.
I KNOW gays have a hard time, especially on television and especially lesbians and there is no way I would want Rachel's impact to be diminished, but seriously, have you looked at fandom? They will ship everyone with everyone else, nobody cares about a person's sexuality at all if it fits their kinks and if they can pair them off with other characters they like.
I'm trying to defend fandom in general here, I think I've rarely seen a more tolerant bunch when it comes to all forms of sexuality and I get the impression that they are NOT trying to lessen Rachel in any way by shipping her with Keith (not everyone does that either, there is a plethora of pairings).

Are you missing the point that there's a difference between taking one of many many straight men and turning them gay and turning the ONE gay woman straight? Because obviously all the lesbian needs is a good deep dicking.

I don't care about whether the intention is to lessen Ms Maddow's impact as an out lesbian in a committed relationship. The fact is that by acting as though her sexuality is not important, they ARE.

And that not going into the outright sexism and phallocentrism of the fandom, where pretty much no one would dare turn a gay man straight in fic, but it's totally okay to make Ms Maddow gobble cock.

I've actually read awesome Anderson Cooper/Erica Hill fic and most of it had a lot of positive comments. I don't think what you are saying is true for most people in the pundit fandom. Is there kind of a focus on "teh cock"? Yeah, there is, but there is also a lot more prominent male pundits. I'm not saying this is a good reason for why there are few females in pundit fic, but it is most likely the reason.

And for the record, I ship K/R only in a friendship way or a unrequited-for-Keith way, as I have issue shipping Rachel with a guy (that said, I'm not against it for other). My Rachel OTP is her with Ana Marie Cox.
