I never had any opinion on this movie as a Sherlock Holmes adaptation, myself-I knew it was inspired by that, of course, but I've not seen any other Sherlock adaptations or read the books, so that was the extent of my knowledge on that level. I just enjoyed the movie as a kid simply 'cause it was fun in and of itself and I liked Disney movies in general :D.

It's been some time since I've seen it, but I seem to recall it still holding up for me when I last saw it. But I can see where it might not hold up as well for you, yeah-I do seem to remember Basil being a little on the rude side at times. Though I think he does soften up a little towards the end, too.

Basically, all this talk makes me want to go watch the movie again now :p.
