I always sort by kudos when I first get into a new fandom, and it's always worked well for me. Even when I'm not sorting by kudos, I always check the number of kudos before I read a fic.

I also LOVE kudos. They've made posting my fanfic so much less discouraging than it used to be. Comments give me a hit of dopamine like nobody's business, but being able to look at the kudos gives me an enduring sense of calm satisfaction. Kudos keep the suffocating self-doubt at bay.
