I am pretty sure that some of all your listed examples have been around for a long time. What's the cut off for "modern" cartoons anyway?

AtLA's over 15 years old and the characters attitudes/facial expressions weren't anything new, so I'm going to guess "modern" means anything made after Captain Planet.

Some of my examples are a lot older than others, and I remember them being there for as long as I've been alive, but others (like the word thing and the ironic coolness) are more recent. But all of them at one point or another didn't bother me. I've just gotten sick of them all at once.
