Amusingly, the first thing I thought of when I saw the above question was "Man, this reminds me of all those people who heard 'Time Of Your Life' and then went out and bought Green Day albums and were shocked" so yeah...

I actually like their usual stuff better, not that Time Of Your Life is terrible. Just they are generally in my mind a band for "upbeat fun times", and they are very, very good at that aside from the occasional outlier. So if you like the outlier AND fast-paced pop-punk, you may find you like them anyway. =)

Yeah, I've never been particularly into punk. Punk-inspired can be great, but full-on punk tends a little too much towards "noise" for my liking. Only about 1% of the music I like could be described as "aggressive." Whereas Time Of Your Life is just exceptionally beautiful, sonically speaking. Which is right up my alley. "Achingly beautiful with poignant strings"? Yes please!

Fortunately I didn't go out and buy a Green Day album. Mainly because I was ten at the time, lol.

Ah yeah, that's fair. I have go-to favorite genres, but will happily listen to a good artist/band of any type, so... that's probably why I can't answer this initial question, even if one song by an artist doesn't sound anything like their other stuff, I probably won't care as long as they're talented. XD
