I feel like The Haunting of Bly Manor suffered similarly- people thought it was going to be much more Horror focused than it was. But it was a good ... more of a gothic romance.

This is actually making me want to check out Crimson Peak now.

Definitely a similar thing! I didn’t think Bly was as good as Hill House but it was more or less what I expected a thing based on Turn of the Screw with a modern twist to be like.

Ngl Crimson Peak isn’t exactly amazing in terms of the genre and it’s corny/a well-worn path (as you’d probably expect) but it hits the right buttons imo.
