Re: Tiny Things That Shouldn't Bother You, But They DO.

When people turn a ton of lights on. I get that different people like different levels of light, and that everyone else in my family likes it with all the lights on and the window shades open. But it still bugs me because I prefer it without too much light. And sometimes there is enough light put on that it is actually painful for me, particularly if I have a headache.

I hate when people leave lights on for no damn reason. You're *not in that room anymore*, turn the light off.

Especially on tv/movies when EVERY LIGHT in the house is on. Who *does* that?

My parents do that a lot. Because if they end up going back to the room, they don't want to trip. They're afraid of tripping without lights on even when it is bright and sunny outside.

I can understand that, if someone has vision issues or something. I've found it *really* weird on tv shows when they're trying to say 'oh, this family is poor and has money issues!' but every light is blazing night and day.

I don't know many people who have money issues who do that.

ever notice people on TV have much nicer houses or apartments than people in real life with the same jobs?

Oh, yes, even the 'poor' people on tv have much nicer houses/apartments, *and*, if there's some emergency, they somehow always have the money. I mean - I have a friend whose car stopped working, they can't fix it...that's it. Haven't had a working car for over a year because they *do not have the money*.

No matter how 'poor', somehow they always have money for that rebuild or new tires or plane frigging ticket to rescue someone. Annoying.

Well, me?

I live on my own, and I just... don't like things getting too dark at night. It's not *every* light, but the hall is definitely lit until I go to bed, regardless of which room I'm in before then.

My parents were like - if you leave a room, turn the light off. So it's just my habit. I just...can't leave a light on if i'm leaving the room and not going right back. My whole house is dark right now except for the light in here with my computer. :D

Oh yeah, I understand being frugal.

But it's def. a peace of mind thing for me, which is worth more to me than the few cents it costs to run the lights. (I'm really picky about running heaters, though.)

I'm with you honestly. I'm not really afraid of the dark in my adulthood, but I feel more comfortable having a certain amount of lights on outside of my bedroom at night. That's also why I keep the TV on(muted though).

Personally, I want some light in my environment once it's dark outside. Not every single light, but like, I live in a small apartment, and once it's dark out I want a lamp on in the living room, a lamp on in my bedroom, and the stove light on in the kitchen. I'll turn more lights on if I need them, but I want those on until I go to bed.

I'm very frugal, and there's a ton of other ways I don't waste resources. Having lights on is important to me. It makes me feel at home in my home. It makes my space feel inhabited and inviting.
