Didn't sleep well, and when I did sleep I had nightmares. And my back has been painful all day. I just feel drained and irritable.

Also, I think I'm currently having a migraine aura.

I got home from work, lifted some weights, and took a shower. Now I'm sucking down a protein shake and about to settle down with a good book. Today is a good day.

So sad. Reddit said they are getting rid of Reddit Gifts at the end of the year. They don't outright say it, but it is because they can't make enough of a profit off it. :(

And I am now getting a migraine. Took some ibuprofen, let's hope it kicks in soon.

Good news: Robert Englund has joined the cast of Stranger Things 4! I also began watching the film "Crimson Peak" on Netflix, and the Russian series "To the Lake".

Bad news: I got my period early, during a June heatwave. Meh.

Trying to write a fic that one of my muses has been bugging me to write for a couple months, stymied by my GI tract doing awful things and the muse in question getting partway in and realizing "oh actually this really sucks for me, I don't want to do this anymore". And I'm like WELL DUH WHAT DID YOU EXPECT, and I'm writing it even if I can't post it unless he cooperates during the editing process and makes it more coherent.

And not unrelated, wondering how to tag/warn on a fic that does not contain character death, but is entirely about one character finding out about and reacting to (canonical) character death.

Procrastinated on a fanwork project (yes, something with a deadline) by playing a bit of Valheim. Surprised myself by beating the boss I needed to beat, solo. Got caught off guard by a swarm at a portal-posing-as-a-real-base. Nearly had a damn cow because I couldn't get in the damn door at the most critical moment to get to the portal.

Then realized it was a blessing in disguise. I don't intend to return to that place, and when you are out of range of the base attack, the attackers stick around until you return and have experienced the entirety of the attack. And since only one attack is done at a time, every other base I've made is technically off-limits for the time being. But just in case, I'm removing every little structure that makes a location qualify as a base, at every other base.

Anyway, I made a ton of progress today and I'm pleased. Created the necessary structures and items I need to progress further. Though to be honest, I don't think I'll go beyond maxing out my new equipment until the next stage of the game is released.

The RL Stine Babysitter series. I loved them as a kid. They were incredibly fucked up.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and any of Bruce Coville's books (I bought the Book of Nightmares as a kid, and it was the only book that ever genuinely scared me).

Scary Stories to tell in the dark has my vote, and while I know it borders scifi/paranormal, Bailey's School House Kids had one or two books that really made me scared (as I'd read them when the rest of the house was dark and quiet).

Lois Duncan books! Particularly Gallow's Hill (which has a film adaptation already, it's just not very good). I feel like, in today's time, the book's underlying themes of mob mentality and falling for propaganda could be super interesting in the hands of a competent filmmaker. There's also a book of hers about femininism in the 70s, I can't remember the name of it, but I'd love to see that one as well.
