I once saw it argued that Kim isn’t the kind of character who’s normally the protagonist. She’s the kind of character the protagonist normally looks up to as a distant, seemingly unreachable aspiration, and yet using her as an actual protagonist somehow worked anyway. So creating a situation for Ron to surpass her kinda undermines that at the end, putting the focus back on the ordinary dude . . .

And suddenly, I understand like never before why so many people hated Jaune Arc.
