Omg, same. It's especially annoying when you're a fan of the original yet the reboot is the one with internet popularity. Having a slightly different title à la NCIS would make searching for content so much easier.

I agree.

The fricking Halloween franchise has had three movies called only Halloween and it's really annoying to me, especially as I dislike that the 2007 reboot exists and think the 2018 continuation is not great.

But every incarnation of Beverly Hills, 90210 does actually have a slightly different name (Beverly Hills, 90210 - original 1990 title; 90210 - 2008 reboot; BH90210 - 2019 meta continuation).

So totally yes on Halloween. I love the first two original Halloween movies, but it is really hard to find fics that are just of those two movies in the midst of everything in the fandom.

As someone into X-Men, having a million different title variations doesn't help because everyone just tags their stuff "X-Men". Or, on AO3, "X-Men - all media types". No! This helps nobody!

1000000%

It's frustrating because comicsverse fic is notably better

Tolkien fandom is the same. And sometimes people even tag their movieverse stuff with the book tags. It is really frustrating. I always make sure to include the Silmarillion tag in mine so people know that my fics are Silmarillion-based (although most of the time my fics include characters that are Silm-specific, so it should be clear anyway).

Try being a Ninja Turtles fan. Multiple cartoons, movies and comics that all take place in their own universes, searching for just one can be a pain. Especially since a lot of older fic is on FF.net which doesn't have separate categories for each incarnation.
