Re: What super popular media do you not get the point of?

Oh man, same. I enjoy videos and all but I really hate how text-based tutorials seem to be disappearing more and more and being replaced by Youtube tutorials. Sometimes I don't mind watching a video -- for certain sewing things for example I like being able to watch exactly what needs to be done because the written explanations can be confusing -- but I also read faster than most people talk and there are a lot of times that I just want a nice written out step-by-step tutorial. Plus so many videos are stuffed with useless fluff on top of it, like you have the jingly channel intro and the 'please subscribe' and the sponsors and the host mugging with their pets and it's like the equivalent of those food blogs that go on giant tangents before giving you the recipe except it's a lot harder to skip straight to the actual content I came for.

Yeah, even in instances where video tutorials are a good idea, often what I'm looking for is the exact process of how some random thing is done, and if it's a video? All I need is like a 10 second clip showing someone doing the thing. Not an oral history of the thing, not alternatives to the thing, not a scientific explanation of how the thing works. Like when I got a phone I had to pop a SIM card into for the first time. I just wanted to confirm how it would look when done correctly, I didn't need a five minute video about SIM cards or someone showing off the phone model in question and talking about the specs.

I'm *deaf*, so the transition to videos, often without subtitles, is extremely annoying.
