Re: What super popular media do you not get the point of?

I'm disabled and my hands are wonky, so I might as well join a community while I'm at it so I can talk about games I'll never be able to play. Especially as someone on the trans spectrum, I've found a couple of good communities where I'm making friends. I don't have that offline, really, because it can be dangerous to be Out where I am. Having people use the correct pronouns and to vent to has really helped my mental health.

Again, totally fair! Interesting too, because a LOT of my trans friends either stream a lot themselves or watch a lot of streamers. I always sort of assumed it was just coincidence, but maybe they've also found there's a helpful supportive community among the streaming crowd.

I'm sort of disabled in the opposite direction - I find it very hard to talk aloud myself nowadays, and depending on how bad my neurological issues are on a given day, sometimes I have a lot of trouble understanding vocal speech (and you can't rewind on livestream to figure out what someone said, heh). That probably plays into my disinterest.

It's gotten better with the new tagging system, though I found my people on accident because a trans friend recommended the dude I follow on Twitter and I found a few other people that way. It's a bigger gay YTer, but he makes efforts at community nights where he'll play with people who've proven to not be trolls and talks with people regularly.

That's pretty cool of him. =) I occasionally get to play with a couple of my friends when they're streaming - one guy I know sends out invites to anyone watching during Pokemon Go raid hour so it's a group activity, which makes it more fun IMO, especially since I only get to see him in person a couple times a year at most. But also I've never seen more than 14 viewers on his channel at once so it's, well, very manageable...

lol They've done Among Us, Fortnite private games, Mario Kart, he has a Minecraft server where he does survival build contests where the whole stream gets in on voting after flyovers of the builds, things like that. It's pretty cool. Most people on his stream would rather watch, so it's not really a huge race even though he usually gets 100+ watchers.
