If they were going to include her at all, they should have gone a different direction with Mandy on The West Wing. They did see that her character wasn't working and got rid of her, but they did it bizarrely - she just disappeared after the shooting and they never mentioned it. Given this, her storyline just ended up being unnecessary and ineffectual.

I'm not entirely sure what they were trying to do with Etta on Fringe, but what they did end up with was weirdly flat. She had such interesting potential, but it just fizzled.

Grey's Anatomy missed the mark killing off Brooks, instead of any of the other interns (though both Edwards and Ross got better in terms of character and storyline later). She was just so weird and interesting.
