Yes this. I am also constantly going THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED IF YOU WERE JUST HONEST WITH EACH OTHER AND IF YOU THINK YOU CAN'T BE HONEST ABOUT THIS WHY ARE YOU EVEN ASSOCIATING WITH THIS PERSON.

It's like everyone either distrusts or is afraid of everyone else in a good chunk of fictional media, even the people they're allegedly closest to, and holy crap - get some new friends/partners if that's the case.
