Thread OP and I think it's the case with all Ghibli food all the time so take your pick? I'm aware that scene in question was supposed to be disgusting but that was more the way they were eating and not how the food looked in itself. I think all Ghibli food has this squishy, gummy look, as if it was made of gelatin. It does fit in with the more rounded style of the rest of the animation, but I don't think it looks delicious at all.
