Someone did that in almost every chapter of a (US show) fic I was reading and I just gave up reading it in annoyance.

I don't think it's even particularly correct in British English, but is some regionalism.

This is the one that bugs me most. It must be one of those things people don't catch when they are watching their language because it will pop up in fics that otherwise read pretty American.

Brit here. I never even realised that wasn't grammatically correct until I saw people posting about it on here lol. It's a colloquialism I guess, but it's so commonplace that everyone uses it at every strata. (Meaning it doesn't carry any class implications like 'ain't' or 'i seen it')
