I think the show itself is a bit stale at this point but Sandi definitely gave it some CPR.

Stephen didn't bother me at the time, but Sandi isn't pompous in the same way, which I definitely appreciate. The show feels more friendly since she started. And I love that she's made a specific effort to have more female guests.

that's bbc policy, not a sandi thing

(Anonymous) 2021-06-27 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, there's often a lot more women on the panel now than BBC policy actually requires. I think I remember hearing that at least one female guest also stated that they prefer Sandi because the atmosphere with her is more relaxed.

I use to be so obsessed as a teenager when Stephen Fry was the host in the early series (ngl I still internally think of quotes and moments from the show like Bill Bailey saying that Doctor Who was a documentary), so when I got older and put off by Stephen Fry I had stopped watching the show.
When Sandi first took over, I gave the first episode a look and I think I got put off by all the sex jokes or something and ended up not watching it for a while. Started watching it again with my Mum because she's been getting into Great British Bake Off and likes Sandi and enjoying it a lot more this time around.

Fry is an ass but he was good at his job. At least until it got stale in later seasons.

Agreed. I never liked QI until I fell in love with Sandi's run. Now I can even watch clips from Stephen's run, though I don't like watching whole episodes from back then. I just don't like Stephen Fry in large doses.

I've got mixed feelings. Sandi is nicer, and funny. Sometimes Stephen could be insufferable, but I thought was balanced out by the guests who had the wit to keep him humble - especially Phil Jupitus. But... IMO, QI was funnier overall in the earlier seasons because it was fresher.

It's funny to me that you're specifically mentioning Phil Jupitus because he's one of my favourite guests in Sandi's run. He has such great rapport with Sandi.

Phil is just great, period. :)

He has such great rapport with everyone! But he really seemed to enjoy teasing Stephen, and he did it very well.

British panel shows should have a statutory limit of 15 series or so.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hard agree

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
But "I'm sorry I haven't a clue" and ""Just a Minute!" And "Gardener's Question Time"!

Man, I love Phil Jupitus. He was always one of my favorite guests on QI.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-27 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Stephen Fry is a misogynistic blowhard. I went to a talk with Kay Redfield Jamison where he was the interviewer, and he talked all over her and wouldn't let her get a word in edgeways. We were not there for him.

He's also on record as saying that Bi-polar is the only proper depression. Seeing Ruby Wax lay into him (she has monocyclic (sp?) type) whilst Monty Don facepalmed and tried to pretend he was on a different panel was painfully funny though.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-27 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Stephen Fry should just be assumed to say that the only real X is the one that he has, at all times, he's just that egocentric.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-27 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
OP He really is an ass. I'm so glad he's fled to the US and we get Sandi instead.

Let me try this again

They say of the Acropolis (where the Parthenon is)...

I used to love Stephen Fry soooo much. Males are soooo disappointing.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-27 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
OMG YES. And not just on QI either. He's so up himself it's unreal, yet so many of the hard of thinking venerate him. The secondhand embarrassment is strong.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-27 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
OP I feel this. Why some people blow smoke up his ass I have no idea.
