I've been noticing that this is my flavor, too. I love the tension of slow burn, but at some point, I want them to upgrade and just get together already! Then I want to see stories of the couple doing couple-y things. So same!

Stephen didn't bother me at the time, but Sandi isn't pompous in the same way, which I definitely appreciate. The show feels more friendly since she started. And I love that she's made a specific effort to have more female guests.

I have no idea who the usual fandom suspects are or whatever, but I couldn't stand these two. They don't have a relationship, they nearly die a few times and them trauma-bond onto one another. Idk if it's better written in the book but in the show I felt like every single step for a romance was missing and I was rolling my eyes at all their interactions.

For what it's worth, it's better in the book. They're relying on each other for several weeks on the ice and there's definitely no discussion of running away together at the end.

I use to be so obsessed as a teenager when Stephen Fry was the host in the early series (ngl I still internally think of quotes and moments from the show like Bill Bailey saying that Doctor Who was a documentary), so when I got older and put off by Stephen Fry I had stopped watching the show.
When Sandi first took over, I gave the first episode a look and I think I got put off by all the sex jokes or something and ended up not watching it for a while. Started watching it again with my Mum because she's been getting into Great British Bake Off and likes Sandi and enjoying it a lot more this time around.

Yup, with you on this one.

That's not to say I discard all slow-burns because some have worked for me, but I absolutely prefer the couple I'm into actually getting together during the canon. There's a little leeway with this for me: TV vs movie being a good example as it's hard to do a full relationship progression in 2 hours, so I'm likely to be okay with the couple getting together in the last few moments in those. But for a TV show I'm going to want that to happen at least by the half-way point if not sooner, my patience only holds out so much and too much will-they-won't-they will frustrate me to the point of getting bored and fucking off to find something else. Like I have actually dropped shows fully because the constant ship-teasing with the leads pissed me off.

If you're going to do a romance: commit or don't bother imo.
