Re: Heat-Wave Related Woes, Rants, Raves(?), Experiences

It’s 36/87 degrees in my house rn. Last night at 1 AM it was 33/91 in my bedroom. We have no fan, either, so there is no airflow, so it feels ever hotter. We got rid of it at some point, and by the time we realized we no longer had it, every fan in a fifteen mile radius was sold out.

I slept on the couch last night because it was like two degrees cooler there, but our couch is leather and way too firm for me, so I could barely sleep there either.

Tonight I am sleeping on the deck. I bought an air mattress, and I cleared a space. It’s happening. I am afraid of spiders but fuck it, the spiders can have me if it means I get some sleep.

Also, I’m the anon with the sever, life-long sleep disorder, and all of this is happening while I’m a month and a half into my (so far oddly successful) attempt to regulate my FUBAR Circadian rhythm. So the entire thing is just, like, layers of chaotic weirdness all the way down.

I was doing pretty well with going to bed at 2:30AM(ish) and getting up at 10AM (which is a full four hours before those things usually occur for me. And that whole thing was feeling downright revolutionary in terms of the change it was making in my day to day life. And then the universe went, “Okay, but what if you just couldn't sleep...at all? What then? Let’s find out!”

Also, my building had a fire alarm go off today, because a heat sensor on the roof got too hot, or something. So we hung out in the cool, dark entrance to the parking garage for half an hour while the firemen came.

Everything feels like a snow day, except the opposite, and considerably more surreal.

That sounds awful. I'm so sorry. We've had the opposite problem here. My mom is keeping the aircon so cold that I've been wearing winter pajamas to bed.

It is kind of awful. But it's also just so surreal and odd that I'm not fully miserable about it. If it weren't for my strong desire (need, really) to stick to my sleep disorder treatment plan, I'd probably be enjoying the experience, just because it's so weird and I've always liked weird experiences that disrupt normal life.

SA - Also, sorry about your mom. That seems really selfish and unfair to you to not be willing to compromise on the AC temperature.

Spiders are too busy catching bugs to worry about you. Good luck - I hope you get some rest!

Thanks! It'll definitely be a new experience.
