I don't mind simplicity but now that you mention the dress it kinda does look like a cosplay dress from Wish.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-29 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ew, what the heck is going on with that dress?

(Anonymous) 2021-06-29 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow yeah I don't care about this show but that looks cheap as hell

I don’t mind if a costume isn’t 100% accurate so long as the general thought is there and there’s nothing very obviously historically wrong, like idk a shorter hemline than you’d get. But yikes, that looks cheap.

I was about to ask but now I see the B necklace so...Bolyn?

Wrong, all wrong. You're right OP, where are the jewels and pearls? Where's the brocade? Is she wearing a hoop 10 years before hoops were en vogue for nobility? It's like they're trying to be a steakhouse dinner on a Taco Bell budget, wtf.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-29 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, you're not kidding. What crap.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-29 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Looks like a dress from a playing-card - which were after all based on mediaeval dresses, and have never changed. Or the dress the Queen of Hearts wears in Alice in Wonderland. Perhaps that's a deliberate call-back.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-29 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
lmao what even is that dress? it looks like a halloween costume
pantswarrior: Laguna scratches his head. (huh?)

...To be fair, I have genuinely made some of my best costume pieces out of upholstery/drapery fabric, hahaha.

But yeah, this looks rather plain for what I would have expected. Seen better at the cheap local ren faire.

I am suddenly reminded of "Went with the Wind."

"I just saw in the wondow and...I couldn't resist."

I have seen Spirit Halloween costumes that looked better. I have made better costumes out of basic fabric and pretty bits I have saved out of the rag bin.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-30 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, that's so...cheap looking. And flat.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-30 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
That's a beautiful actress but also, yeah, damn that dress is bad. It doesn't even fit!

(Anonymous) 2021-06-30 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I cannot imagine a Tudor era noblewoman wearing something this plain. Not just the fabric, where is the lace, the jewels, the embroidery?

My mother used to make costumes for a community ballet company, and she could throw together something better than this.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-30 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
It's like the live action BatB remake all over again.

But yeah, no, I'm no seamstress and even I can see the jank on that waistline.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-30 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
oh god I didn't even look at the waistline at first. It doesn't fit her AND it's sewn together! Tudor era gowns were separates! Bodice and skirts!

(Anonymous) 2021-06-30 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, that ballgown in BatB was so disappointing. :(

(Anonymous) 2021-06-30 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
As pissed off as I was at Belle's costumes (and the prince's blue coat in the last scene that looked like cheap panne velvet), at least they fit and were well constructed, and everyone aside from Belle had historical fantasy-ish clothes where even if they didn't match a specific period, still worked as a cohesive whole. Which is one reason Belle's dresses and especially her ballgown pissed me off--it stood out in a modern lines, modern fabrics way from everything else in the movie, despite being well constructed to be shown off while dancing.

The dress in the photo looks like someone who could only sort of sew had a dollar store sewing kit, some curtains, and two hours to come up with a mockup before the photoshoot.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-30 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Guess somebody didn't want to blow the budget on costumes.

I am kind of offended by this outfit, especially considering the opulence of the time for nobility/royals. And I've watched both Reign (lmao) and the Spanish Princess. So where the fuck are the elaborate jewels and luxurious fabrics?

(Anonymous) 2021-06-30 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
the thing i don't understand about this is that, at least based on the amount of outfit duplicates on frock flicks, there's a whole warehouse somewhere that has these period piece costumes available to use. if you're going to do a period piece, costumes are so key. why would you cast someone like this and then put her in such cheap looking outfits?

(Anonymous) 2021-06-30 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
It's like this dress is a representation of the series: completely unimpressive. Why does Anne Boleyn exist? It's nothing but a rehash of every well established trope and story line from Tudor fiction about Anne.

I had planned to check this out cause I'm a sucker for Tudor era stuff and I don't mind race blind casting buuuut I saw gifs and the costumes looked so bad that I lost all interest. It's not even about accuracy - I love The Tudors afterall - but yikes this almost falls into Reign level terribleness.

The actress is beautiful, but the dress looks like someone got the material from the drapes from a Halloween party.
