This annoyance is so specific that i respect it, but I feel like it doesn't make sense with enola who was figuring out how to move in society by its mores AND do so while being unconventional. I think this actually makes sense for her, and most teenagers who are questioning how they fit into specific images, but less so as a trope for adults in situations where it's an obstacle.

In Enola’s case specifically, it probably would have made more sense for her to follow the route taken by most feminists at the time and wear her hair up in the most utilitarian way possible. Defying societal norms? Check. Practical hairstyle that is unlikely to get in your way or catch on fire? Check. Conventionally attractive enough for show business? Probably not.

I mean I don't agree not the least because I said that enola was deciding how she wanted to be perceived between two (or more) options and that she wore a variety of hairstyles in service of that. I also don't think teenagers need to think practically in all moments, lol.

I tend to think you're right about this. Her loose hair didn't bother me, because I think it conveys, visually, the effect the filmmakers wanted to convey. But if we were going for a style that was both IC and realistic, then yeah, I agree.
