I saw a discussion on Reddit the other day by some Christian (former I guess) kids raised on these crappy books saying that the thought that they were going to be raptured soon in an apocalypse made them aimless and lacking in any sort of ambition. So there's that too.

yeah, there's a lot of discussions like that on r/exchristian and naturally the atheism sub that always gets to all. I feel fortunate that I apparently skirted the fringe and never really fell too deeply, I got out without scars besides a lingering disgust with evangelical everything. Apparently a LOT of people raised this way from childhood end up with a lot of trauma even if they weren't physically abused.
