Yeah, I always wondered if I was SUPPOSED to think the main characters in Seinfeld were selfish self-absorbed jerks who got everything that they had coming to them in the last episode or if the creators expected us to relate with them somehow.

I'm about 99% sure this is true, actually. I think they had something with the writers where they were never supposed to learn or change or grow as characters.

I don't know, I always thought it was pretty clear they were dicks and the audience was meant to relate to the way shitty way human beings can act, not identify with the characters themselves. We were supposed to look at them and go, "man, I've met people like that and they suck balls", not "ohhhh I can see myself behaving that way, I totally understand where they're coming from."

Which is why we laugh at them for being failures in life.
