(Anonymous) 2009-02-13 07:45 am (UTC)(link)EVERY fantasy movie made has had a majorly white cast. And, that doesn't bug me too much, because almost every fantasy movie that has been made is based off of European cultures, traditions, and beliefs. Shouldn't that mean that a movie made that is based off of Asian cultures, traditions, and beliefs than be cast with Asian people???
I mean, I personally think that Zuko and Aang could go either way. I think that my eleven year old [white] cousin looks a helluva lot more like Aang than any Asian kid I know. My main beef is with the casting of Sokka and Katara. No amount of tanning is going to make their skin the right shade! I am an actress of color. I look more like Katara than the white stick they have as her now! And, the a--hole they cast as Sokka is obviously racist himself, after the quote he slipped to US!
P.S. I AM an activist. Generally, I am more active in the Animal Rights arenas, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't piss me off that the only major actress that I look anything like is the girl who plays Neela on ER, and the character has a f--ing Brittish accent!!!!
