Treadmill vs Row Machine

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2021-07-07 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I finally maybe have my basement mostly dry. I am wanting to get one piece of gym equipment and am currently trying to decide between a rower and a treadmill.

Previously, I used a treadmill for 3+ years before it was murdered by a power surge.

On the one hand, I know I'll use a treadmill. On the other hand, when possible I always preferred walking outside. I also know the proper form for a treadmill. But I know a rower is more low impact which would be better for my knees (I got a bad one from a childhood accident).

a rowing machine isn't too hard to use as long as you read up on the proper form beforehand etc etc. Being able to change intensity as you go is nice too. (though you can end up doing something very low intensity without meaning to because it's really a case of getting out what you put in, rather than being forced to move at speed). And the low impact is definitely a plus. For me the main downside of rowing is that I find it very repetitive and boring... If you can find a way to like, watch a tv show or something while you do it that might help in that regard lol.

I'd likely listen to podcasts. To be honest, I always felt my treadmill was repetitive as well. That is why I prefer walking outside when I can.
