Meh. It's never going to be completely true to the universe because it was as much Terry Pratchett's story as Gaiman's. It's not entitled to feel disappointed in that front I think. This seems like making it a cash cow and disrespectful to Sir Terry's legacy, especially after Neil Gaiman made so much noise about wanting to keep it true to the books in his memory.

Still, I know there are loads of people out there who are excited so I'm just going to walk away and ignore its existence.

I'm mostly annoyed that apparently *everything* that's successful gets a (not initially planned for) sequel/season 2 these days even if one season/movie works as a perfectly fine standalone. (I mean, I know money yadda yadda yadda... I'm not saying it doesn't make any sense, I'm just annoyed by it.)

At the end of the day I only watched the show once, despite loving the book so I'm not super invested and hope the people who want to enjoy it, will enjoy it. Time to block the Good Omen tags on tumblr again, though.

Mainly following fan artists has kept me a bit ignorant to what's going on in the fandom in terms of drama lol.

I'm only concerned about the potential hissy fit people are going to throw if it doesn't turn out to be 'gay enough' since people were accusing the first series of being queer bait (even though that term wouldn't really fit for Good Omens, it doesn't stop people from using it in every situation when their ship don't get together).

I'm a much bigger fan of the show than the book (sorry, book fans), so I'm super excited to see what a second season will be like. Luckily, I don't follow anybody who would harsh my squee.

I feel like one part of this secret (the objection to/wariness of a second season) doesn't necessarily link to the other (entitlement about headcanons). Surely it's possible to have one or the other, neither or both, so it basically seems like OP wants to complain about the latter and is using the former as some sort of justification or support to show how ~reasonable they are. *shrug*

I have rarely seen a continuation of derivative media (i.e. not an adaptation of the sequels of the original medium) be as good as or better than the original medium or it's first adaptation, unless the first derivation was barely an adaptation to begin with. I think, even though Neil says he and Terry had an outline of a sequel ready to go, that it makes sense to be wary.

The fandom is a different matter imo, and I don't think wariness of the second season is actually evidence, but yes they were entitled to begin with.

Personally I'm not pleased about the sequel because I don't like Neil Gaiman's writing style at all, likely enjoyed the book largely due to Pratchett's influence, and most of what I disliked about the original series was Gaiman's original additions which were all in his very annoying style (including twee OOC dropping of Tori Amos lyrics which would be eye rolling if it happened in a fanfic and is even worse when the canon writer does it). If it had been Neil Gaiman's Good Omens I would never have gotten through the book in the first place, so forgive me if I'm annoyed to see him ruin something I love further.

Also the other big reason I'm not enthused, is there literally any case where a single book was turned into multiple seasons of TV that didn't completely fall apart and start to suck once they ran out of canon material? Considering the wreck American Gods turned into I'm not optimistic for GO.

I wasn't thrilled to hear about a second season because the first one ended so beautifully. It's so rare for shows to have a satisfying, happy ending and it meant so much to me. I didn't want any more "canon" to shatter that.

However, as a huge John Finnemore fan, as soon as I saw he was cowriting a lot of my trepidation dissolved. John is wonderful with character development and an astute judge of human nature, as well as being very funny. I'm counting on him to make it worth it.

I'm excited for a second season but I'm already dreading the Discourse. Whatever happens, someone's going to be unhappy that their personal headcanon or representation didn't play out as they wanted it to. My corner of fandom has always been pretty chill, but Tumblr was a disaster in this regard over season 1.
