Euro Cup

English people: what's it like on your neighborhood right now?

Everyone else: are you rooting for England or Italy?

Re: Euro Cup

(Anonymous) 2021-07-07 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Italy. Much better food (yep, that's my reason).

Re: Euro Cup

(Anonymous) 2021-07-07 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Was rooting for Denmark, now I don't really care anymore.
(Are the English fans the only ones booing the national hymns of other countries? I feel like I only ever hear that from their games... if that's true, I'm slightly in favor of Italy.)

I'm indifferent to everything related to football - but it's really weird to see English flags up everywhere in my neighbourhood.

On one hand it would be kind of funny if England did win the Euro cup after leaving the EU - but on the other hand if England wins then people are never going to shut up about it, so I wouldn't mind losing tbh.

I'm an American that doesn't really follow soccer much.
As I am both 1/4 Sicilian and 1/4 Spanish, I didn't cheer on either team the other day. :) Now, since Italy won and is playing England...I'm still not cheering either team on because I'm an Anglophile. :D

My longtime tifosi tendencies notwithstanding, I still think the overriding factor here is not wanting to hear about this shit for the next fifty odd years.

How was your hump day?

Half the work week is over?

Re: How was your hump day?

For me it's half of my week off and I feel like as soon as I blink it's going to be Monday again.

Work was stressful due to some container shipping issues. -__-

Also, I've been walking as much as possible outside for weight loss. My treadmill broke last October so I've been doing it anymore. My shitty town only has like 4 good sidewalks to walk on so I just go in the same path over and over. Today an employee at the lumber store was on a smoke break and waved me down. Asked me how much weight I had loss since he saw me walking for like the past three years and has noticed me getting skinnier. If the lumber guys recognize me, that means everyone on Main street does. :|

The city sent road-workers to do EXTREMELY noisy work on the road immediately below my bedroom window at 7:30 AM. I only barely restrained myself from being the crazy lady who screams insults from her balcony, and I only managed it because it was obviously not those specific workers' faults that they were there jackhammering through pavement at 7:30 AM. But still, fuck everyone involved in deciding to schedule that work for 7:30 AM, fuck them very very much.

Not bad aside from getting a bucket full of sand dumped on me (I work in a daycare). I hate sand. I showered, but I can still feel it, all gritty and sticking to me.

I got six hours sleep last night as opposed to the two the night before, and worked a ten and a half hour day instead of a ten hour day like the day before.

Feel like total crap, but only have to work eight and a half hours tomorrow.

Also came to the realization that the realization I came to last week about what to do with the current fic project is... not really working out with what I had written already, so I am faced with entirely rewriting from the beginning to fit the "theme" I thought I could go with, or else scrapping it and just writing random scenes like I was doing and then figuring out how to connect the dots. And because I am tired and out of spoons I'm pissed at myself for potentially wasting my time writing unusable stuff, and for the fact that I haven't felt up to writing this week so there has been no progress. (Not sure if it'll be long enough to be chaptered, but suspect it'll be at least 10k words, so I kind of want to keep progress moving. :P)

I have now come to realize that while I am very skilled and intelligent in some areas I am occasionally and unpredictabily a total dumbass in some areas of basic sense.

Not fantastic. I slept past my alarm, woke up late, so now I'm frantic that I'll fall asleep late again and miss an important call tomorrow. My mother began aggravating me and arguing with me, which made me cry after she left the room, and now my mood is fragile. I will be indulging myself with self-care things all night.

I guess okay. I was excited about finding a real Japanese restaurant in the city and then read the reviews... food was good but the owner was one of those assholes who didn't care about masking up during lockdown, and seemed proud of it. They got all butthurt that someone scolded them for workers not wearing masks, then pulled out the ol' "you're being mean because my staff can't breathe with those masks!!!" I'm like, oh really? All of your workers just happen to have breathing issues that they can't wear masks? Where the fuck are you hiring these people from, oncology wards? Well, maybe I'm being unfair, but the owner's attitude just reeks of "I don't give a fuck about anyone else's health, oh, but give me your money." I sure as hell won't be eating there. God knows what else they feel entitled to do.

Second day of my new job. More and more excited about it. Got some great cases to start out with. And even though I'm being paid hourly, it really is a real attorney job with all the authority that goes with it. There is one attorney above me who will be running the immigration department, but we both get along and compliment each other well (we have experience in different types of cases).

I get my own office, it is really mine, not just temporary, so I can do with it what I want, which is awesome. I guess it is just hitting me that this is a real job.

Today was my first full time day, and I woke up at 4:30 this morning, and there was an accident on the way home. So I'm absolutely exhausted now. But it was a great day and I feel good.

Also, the former head of the department took us to lunch at a Mexican seafood place. I had some really delicious ceviche.

What are your favorite performances by actors you normally don't like?

Jeff Goldblum was good in Life Aquatic and Will Ferrel was funny in Blades of Glory. I normally can't stand them.
Tim Allen was good in Toy Story and Galaxy Quest so apparently he's only funny when he's doing some sort of Bill Shatner imitation.

I was really blown away by Adam Sandler's performance in Uncut Gems, you can tell they asked him to do it cause nobody likes him and he took the role in stride. I respect him as an actor a lot more after having seen it.

I don't dislike Scarlett Johansson, but I think her talent is wasted in plenty of movies she's in. Case in point: She's remarkably charming and fun in Jojo Rabbit, a side of her acting I don't remember seeing anywhere else but in that film.

Jim Carrey in The Truman Show. I think this is a pretty common sentiment, since it's such a different type of movie from his usual brand.

Rachael Weisz in Confidence

I usually find her either forgettable or actively annoying, but that was a good role.

Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction.

Edge Of Tomorrow is by no means the best acting Tom Cruise has ever done (despite not liking the guy, I do think he's a good actor), but it's my favorite performance by him because it uses the audience's preconceived concepts of who Tom Cruise is to strengthen our understanding of who the character is at the start, and then meshes that understanding perfectly with Tom Cruise's strong suits as an actor in order to develop the character in a way that feels cohesive and extremely convincing.
