Tips for avoiding being sleepy after lunch

[personal profile] philstar22 2021-07-08 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
This feels stupid, and maybe it is just this week because I'm so behind on sleep. But I'm finding that when I'm done with lunch, for the couple of hours after I'm really tired. Today for a while I had trouble keeping my eyes open even as I was reading some stuff.

Are there tips for avoiding being sleeping after eating? Or tips for getting energized when you do feel a little sleepy?

Wendy's Caesar salad (half) and a lemonade. Nothing heavy enough to bring on the food coma and the sugar of the lemonade is a nice little kick.

If that's not your bag, green tea after eating for the caffeine.

Outside of the obvious (sleeping enough, caffeine, not eating a heavy lunch) I find that going for a nice quick walk often helps get my energy back up.

Seconding a brief walk. Maybe stretch a little too. It might not get all of the sleepies out but it might help some. Also make sure you're hydrated.

What are you eating for lunch? I find that foods heavier in fat/carbs tend to make me sleepy. I'd make sure you're eating something well rounded nutritionally and not too much of it, then follow it up with a short walk. Also avoid sugary foods because of the potential sugar crash.
