about 75% of the time I prefer cold. But for a few days every 3-4 weeks I get really cold and start preferring heat.

I used to like heat, but that was back when I was able to just stave it off by drinking cold fluids. Put me out in 100 degree weather and it's not an issue as long as I have something cold to drink.

But now since my GI tract doesn't work and fluids don't like to stay down and I'm chronically dehydrated, it kind of sucks to get overheated. I can't sweat, so I carry around a little plant mister bottle to spray myself, but I can't drink cold things to cool me off from the inside out. Also heat is sort of nauseating when you have to spend too long in it, and cold sometimes helps keep nausea at bay, and since I'm always nauseated, cold often feels really good.

The heat. At worst in the heat I feel a bit sweaty, excess cold literally causes physical pain in my body and stiffens my limbs so much I find it hard to move. I have things like duvets and space heaters to help in the winter, but I'd much rather have spring+early summer weather most of the time than the cold-overcast it is where I live.

Big same. Do you have any sort of health condition that causes your lack of cold tolerance, or is it just how you are? Asking because I have extremely poor cold tolerance myself, and I've always wondered why the fuck it's so bad.

I am really skinny, which is probably part of it. But I feel like there are plenty of people at least as skinny as I am who handle cold better than I do, so IDGI.

Poor circulation runs in my mother's family, but I've never been officially looked at for it, just that my nan used to have the same issues in the winter and I'm the same as her. Just can't hack it at all. I'm skinny too so that might be part of it, less natural insulation for it, but my gf, who is about a skinny, deals with it so much better than me so idk. :(

I really hate it though, and it's annoying how no one takes me seriously at all when I say it hurts because people assume I just need to wear more clothes and I'm already in 3 layers.

Fucking THIS. People just assume you're not making an effort to be warm enough. Meanwhile I am wearing ALL THE LAYERS and I am IN DOORS and I'm still cold. The only thing that has helped me is giving in to the puffer coat trend. It's clear my body just doesn't produce enough heat. It literally escapes faster than I can produce it. But a down puffer coat does such a good job of trapping the heat in that I never get cold while I'm wearing one. I have yet to try one of those thin puffers, though, only the big puffy marshmallow ones. I don't know if a thin one would be effective enough on its own.

I have a literal army of blankets/spare duvets in various places so I can grab them when needed in the cold weather. Like I can't deal with the cold, my gf is bad with the heat so we're a ridiculous pair between us. xD

She thankfully doesn't treat me like a liar when I say I'm cold and tries to help, hell she got me a super-thick duvet for winter sofa-snuggling, but I always hated working in offices anytime other than the dead of winter because the AC will be on and I'm in a hoodie still freezing my ass off.

I prefer cold because I can put more layers on but I can't take my skin off.

Lmao, idk why, but the last bit really got me

This is me. Especially when it's hot AF at work and someone sitting still is whining they're cold. Put a sweater on, Karen, I can't legally take anything else off.

Cold, absolutely. I hate the heat and sweat very easily, which is so unpleasant. I’m that weirdo walking around in a tank top when there’s snow on the ground because even a short walk will make my whole body heat up.

Some day I’ll move somewhere it never gets above 75F. Or figure out a lifestyle where I can spend the summers somewhere cool.

Cold. I run hot and rarely feel cold. Also, sweat is the worst.

Cold.

I hate being hot. You can only strip down to so many layers of clothing (and still end up uncomfortable). Atleast when its cold I can keep adding layers or being under as many blankets as I wish to get warm.

Cold. I can't stand being hot.

I prefer heat, no competition. I am ALWAYS cold, so I basically live ten months of the year in sweaters, even indoors. And in winter, if I'm outdoors and I'm not wearing a puffer coat, I can 100% guarantee I'm shivering like one of those nervous dogs. I fucking HATE air conditioning in commercial spaces because it means I have to bring a sweater with me everywhere, even in the summer.

Admittedly, the recent heat-wave was too much for even me, as we don't have AC or even a fan at the moment. But unless I'm trying to sleep, I love when it's like 30/86 degrees in my vicinity. 40 degrees is too hot, though; it stops being enjoyable somewhere around 35.

Another likes-it-hot anon up thread.

This is me too. I'm in jumpers 80% of the year I reckon because I'm just so damn cold, we get like a month in the summer maybe when I'm in tank tops and the like, but then I switch back to jumpers+cardigans real quick. But there is such thing as too hot as well, mid-thirties is usually where I tap-out too.

Cold. In all my life not once have I enjoyed a season of summer.

I prefer cold. It kills the bugs, I like wearing boots and coats and scarves, and my beloved spouse is a nuclear furnace of a human so cuddling is much more comfortable. Yeah, cold 100%.

Cold. Fall and winter are my favorite seasons for a reason (well, there's others, of course, but that certainly is a plus to them for me). I just hate hot weather, it drives me nuts and makes me feel all bleh.

Dry heat. Can't stand humid head but love dry heat. The most physically comfortable I have been was in parts of India when it was 42 degrees and God the heat just soaked into my very bones and took all the aches away. It was glorious.

Re: Do you prefer the heat or cold.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-09 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Dry heat is glorious, I agree. 42 would be a bit much for me, even with it being dry heat. But 35 and dry is absolute perfection. If it weren't for the fact that it would be an environmental catastrophe, I would kill for like four solid months of hot dry heat every year.

The town where I grew up had hot, dry summers. Not four solid months of 30+, but maybe two and a half months of dry and hot enough to be optimal beach weather. I don't miss much about living there, but I definitely miss the weather. The winters were dry too, which was SO much nicer than the wet-ass winters where I live now. :/

I am a denizen of the southern hemisphere so scolding heat is what I grew up in and I'm used to. However, it's 100% fair when anybody from any climate struggles in weather conditions they are not used to, and I never make fun of my northern counterparts when they suffer the heat cause I wouldn't be able to stand some of the winters my friends live through.

That said, if some life plans come to fruition I will be moving to the northern hemisphere myself, and it feels like it will be a whole lot of adapting to do there.

Cold, but the coldest it gets where I am is about 39-43 degrees Fahrenheit for brief periods overnight in winter, and the hottest about 95-99 for a bit in summer and fall, but I'm right on the coast and that moderates the temperature a lot.
