I don't go here, but can you expand on this at all? Like, it seems like OP's complaint is that female characters don't have any agency - are you saying that's an established / necessary convention of the genre?

Wuxia stuff is based on a fantasy version of ancient China so like... it's like expecting fantasy versions of Western knights and princesses with feminism and female characters with agency

Which sometimes does happen! But like, if thats what you're looking for, and not having that is a dealbreaker, that's prob not your genre overall

Necessary, no. Established, yes. Cdramas aren't great at female characters in general. Also the coughing up blood thing is a super common.
