There *are* aspects to its misogyny and homophobia that are unique, though. I don't know if you're the same anon who goes ballistic every time Chinese media is criticized for these flaws here, but I honestly don't understand why you/they always go so hard for it. I'm Chinese, and even I can see it.

There's rightfully criticising and then there's what OP is doing: wilfully misreading character motivations and interpreting them in the most bad-faith way possible just because they don't like it.

I'm Chinese too dude, and there are at least a few people on here who are very insistent about how Chinese media is The Worst, rather than a mishmash of genres that, like the west, can have their issues.

There's things to crit about Wuxia as a a genre, mostly the over-cutesyness of a lot of the female leads and how much they get to affect the story, but that doesn't mean every show does it or that the shows are all terrible shite that are impossible to enjoy.

And as some people have pointed out above: this reads exactly like a secret a few weeks back where someone was taking story-beats of this show, reading them in the worst possible light and deliberately misreading character motivations to make out the show was problematic(and therefore morally wrong to enjoy obvs). Forgive me if I'm not going to take this persons opinions with much merit.

Eh? I don't recall any FSer who "goes ballistic" every time Chinese media is criticized. I've criticized Chinese media before in secrets AND in the comments and I don't recall any such person.
