I feel dumb because I have read this multiple times now and I am still confused.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-15 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
My interpretation was that they mean that they trust people who reblog every post that they like and like every post that they reblog

So that there's no difference between their liked posts and reblogged posts

Idk tho really

On tumblr, reblogs are more effective at spreading content than likes, so this person is saying that they think people who are more likely to reblog everything they like, or at least reblog posts as much as they like posts, are better/more trustworthy people.

As someone who likes plenty of posts and doesn't always reblog it because my blog is my own damn business (and my likes are hidden because again, it's my business, what are you, the internet police?) I find this utter bullshit, but hopefully I explained it well.

You and the anon above did, thank you!

Yeah I definitely do not reblog everything, I don't like my timeline being all... not me? If that makes sense. I'll like for sure, but generally only reblog/retweet if I think it's something that needs traction.

Firmly seconding all of this.

Yeah I've been seeing this 'reblog everything no matter what' mindset regurgitate on Tumblr more recently and all its done is made me more petty over time. Sorry I have taste and your post needs begging to be reblogged rather than actually having something worth reblogging in the first place.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-16 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
SO MUCH This. People get so worked up about it instead of just enjoying the process of creating. Some people need to be humbled by creating for a tiny obscure fandom, but they would never do that because the fake Internet points wouldn't be enough for them.

If your reason for making content is the clout, rather than because you enjoy making content and you want that content to exist on your blog, then you need to be making the absolute highest quality shit that pushes all the fandom's buttons. And even then you're not entitled to anyone's attention.

Me too. I feel like reblogs are weird because it's just copying the post onto your blog thingy. The politics about how to post and like stuff and tags make me less likely to use new platforms. I don't get it and don't feel like learning only for it to become phased out in 10 years. I'd rather continue lurking.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-15 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
People like you are why my likes and follows are hidden, jfc

(Anonymous) 2021-07-15 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't reblog everything I like because I don't like to spam people.

Presumably my followers also see much of the same content in a given fandom.

Jeeeeeeeez.

As someone who likes everything they reblog and vice versa, this is...odd, to say the least.

I only do it because I have a memory like a sieve and I don't reblog things very often, so I use likes to keep track of what I've reblogged. I think my likes are public, but only because I haven't bothered to make them private.

Op here!

Thank you secret maker for making my secret! Love the picture.

And yes, I know it's a weird as hell opinion. That's why it's a secret! There's just something about how some people wear everything on their sleeve and allow everything into the open that makes them feel very trustworthy. I've never thought for a second about people who hide/don't show their like-list because I don't actually know how tumblr skins work. I don't know which is the default. I don't reblog everything I like. My opinion on people who don't is totally neutral. It's a whole extra button to press, who has time for that? But jeeze, I'd trust someone with an identical like page and blog to save my spot in line. I'd order an Uber and trust them to pay me back someday. If they said the broth was vegan or gluten free I wouldn't feel the need to check.

I'm really amused that I appear to be 100% alone in this and that it offends people to not be irrationally trusted by a anonymous stranger based on tumblr usage.

For the record, I actually understand why you think this, because it seems like these people don't have a difference in the intimacy they let people see, but it could just as realistically mean that they are well aware of the fact that their blogs and likes are both public and they are just more thorough at crafting public personas.

In other words, they could just be too good at crime.
