Honestly, I think this has always been the case. With a couple of really blatant exceptions (Rizzoli & Isles literally using it in their advertising campaigns, for example), actual on-screen queerbaiting is vanishingly rare.

What is much more common nowadays is attempting to bait actors/writers etc into engaging with ship discourse, which shippers then take as endorsement and acknowledgement of their ship as canonically valid, rather than the clickbait BS it actually is.

I get why you would go with that conclusion, but if I remember the "secrets you don't want to make" thread correctly, OP clarified that what they didn't want was modern politics forced onto historical settings. After all, "as accurately as feasibly possible" should definitely include historically accurate social/political issues of the day.

I'd be totally on board with more costume dramas in general and I'd love it if the people who made them used a wider range of historical settings and time periods.

OP Yep pretty much this. I would prefer non-European settings, so, you know, non-white civilisations. And it seems extremely shitty to force modern politics on any representation of any ancient civilisation because, well, it wouldn't be the truth of them. Give me tension between rival tribes, or people having to deal with Genghis Khan turning up on their doorstep. Or basically any political, social and cultural frame that isn't modern day forced on older eras.

I want more ancient costume dramas that aren't just set in Rome or Greece. There are plenty of those, but there is so much more ancient world that could be explored in tv or film.

Anyone learning a language at the moment? What are you hoping to use it for?

I'm learning Mandarin and also want to learn either Swedish or Norwegian but can't pick. Mandarin because it can only come in useful for jobs. A scandi language because I want to move there eventually.
