It's great you found a way to enjoy the things you like, who cares if it's not conventional. You do you! I don't do this exact thing with the cathartic scene, but I sometimes revisit the shippy or cute scenes in the middle. I also sometimes skip the particularly bad parts I can't deal with well. Francis Burnett's "Little Princess" is one of my regular re-reads, and I often skip the birthday chapter, and the chapter where Sara and Ermengarde get caught. I know what happens anyway, so there is no need for the additional emotional suffering.
