The problem with that cat story was that she'd left the college town in Wisconsin and person's theater usher job intact in the submitted New Yorker piece, with the excuse that she didn't expect it to go viral.

The cool way to be is to change it to a barista in Arizona. Otherwise it's creepy and weird, sorry!

Putting other people's experiences in your book does kinda effectively monetize someone else's tragedy. Like, Agatha Christie using Gene Tierney's first pregnancy as inspiration (and a murder motive) in one of her stories is pretty fucking ghastly to me.

Same! And I'm glad I'm not the only one! This is also what makes me skeptical of following critics that are guys (especially because I mostly follow game reviewers). It's unfair, but it's better than to stumble by an unpleasant review.
