Does it count if I rediscovered it? Because I've gotten back into writing fic after going fifteen years without writing a thing and I am loving it.

I've fallen in deep love with "Guardian", the Chinese fantasy series, and I'm not even primarily a slash shipper. But the leads are Absolutely. Gorgeous. And the story, even though it's hobbled by Chinese censorship and an ... ahem ... appalling lack of financial support for the second half of the series, is creative and neat. And the supporting characters are all lovely as well.

... but you wouldn't mind if someone else made them for you! As always, including the fandom and full character names is a big help, and I'll try my best to use an appropriate image choice. Er, just to clarify - it's my intention to make all the secrets left in this thread, so even if they're not marked claimed, they will be made.

I'm always disappointed by the lack of official merch for my fandoms, but I have some weird hangup about buying fanmade things. Even if it's widely accepted (or tolerated, not sure which), I just don't feel right about it. Maybe I'm secretly scared that the copyright boogeyman is gonna pop out of nowhere if I proudly display a plush or wear a tee, idk.

There a tropey shipping conflict that comes up in all types of media:
A = intensely feeling, but emotionally constipated person
B = deeply in love with A
B tells A that they need to communicate their emotions, feelings, problems, or they will walk away. A can't because they are terrified of being hurt if B can't take it. B walks away (usually temporarily).

Frankly, I think this is absolutely healthy and reasonable for B and A. A and B can't have a good relationship if A is always operating from a place of fear. I still end up irrationally angry at B. 10% is like "B can't be A's therapist every time there's some conflict between the two" but 90% of me is like "B should KNOW A has never learned conflict in a safe space; why try a relationship with them when you know this is going to be a problem" It's very frustrating.

I find the writers of Blue Bloods absolutely despicable. Not evil, but honestly, I think they're very shitty people.

s!b: they're merely laundering the nypd's reputation and some of them probably just want a job, they're not the worst people in existence.

Sometimes I wonder when fic writers who write popular m/m ships and genderbend one character to be always female! are secretly homophobic.

Especially when it doesn't change much in terms of character interaction, just the sex parts. What is even the point?? Even stories that do it to make a certain plot point or highlight gender disparities make me side-eye the writer.

Conversely, writers who write m/m ships and distinctly make one or both characters pointedly always gay! despite both of them having had meaningful straight relationships in canon make me think they're biphobic.

I discovered a well-known couple of cosplayers a little while ago. It freaks me out how stalkery I am and how incredibly invested I am in their real life relationship.
I would never do anything they would know about. But I know.

I stopped being involved in a fandom when I realized that my opinions were not the majority, and when I feared ruining people's fun by saying that I wasn't a fan of the new writer on board.

To the one author of a fix-it fic that I read once I went back into a big movie franchise fandom,

Your fic was incredibly well written. I just did not like that crack pairing that you added. I get it's an alternate version of a character and another character, but the ship doesn't make any sense. If I were a beta reader, I'd politely ask you to cut it out of the story. Instead, whenever they were mentioned, interacted, or described, I skipped past those parts.

Despite that, I enjoyed reading your fic over all. Besides being a fix it, it introduced me to more canon that I wasn't familiar with before. I'm not sure if I would admit this to you. It feels like I'm expected to like everything in a fanfic or nothing about it at all? I can like most parts and not like some parts, it's just my opinion.

Unsurprisingly the past year or so hasn't been great for mental health and I'm both frustrated and embarrassed that my social anxiety has enveloped online interaction like it has. Because I've been feeling fannish for the first time in a while and starting to actually want to join fandom discords but it's been a struggle just making myself respond to an author's reply to my comments on their fic. It sucks.

try writing for a non-juggernaut fandom/pairing and in a language other than English:
we're lucky to get 1, blessed if more than 2.

I don't like Burnham and Stamets, but I would never say so publically because it would give the racists and homophobes ammunition against fans for whom that representation matters. Disco's just not for me, and that's okay. Not everything has to be for me.

I’m actually super happy about the changes they made to Newt and Anathema’s characters in the Good Omens TV series, but especially Anathema. The new-age middle-class white girl stereotype that Book!Anathema was poking fun at in the 90s comes off as dated and a bit mean-spirited now. Secret because she was clearly designed by Pterry and that was one of his favorite stereotypes for a while, and criticizing anything he wrote is, well, anathema.

I actually really dislike how Avatar the Last Airbender treated Jet, both overall and in comparison with Zuko. I especially hate the episode where Jet finds out Zuko works in the Earth Kingdom. It actually reminded me of how little grace victims get for working through their issues and how much grace shitty people get when they work through theirs.

I've noticed that I tend to get awfully preachy about parenting when writing fic. In recent years, I've started to worry about offending actual parents since I don't have kids (or another living creature to take care of -- hell, I can barely take care of myself most days). The truth is, I didn't have the best childhood and spent most of it making a note of shit that's extremely damaging to kids when it comes from parents, so maybe I'm just trying to seek good examples of parenting anywhere, even if I have to write it myself. (Cheaper than therapy, I guess?)
