I don't think the modern internet fandom is prepared for The Queen of Atollia in GENERAL, much less the age discourse, but oh my god I would love to see that whole plot unfold on screen. I loved it so much.

As someone completely unversed in this series and not that deep into fandom other than seeing people here talk about "purity fandom" -- can you share your thoughts?/what makes you say this?

AYRT Oh man, first off, I highly recommend the series, as it's very cleverly told, and I'm going to try and explain....without terrible spoilers....hopefully...? I also haven't reread it for several years, fair warning.

Basically, something pretty darn dark happens early in the second book and there's a definite "power imbalance" between the main character and the two queens involved in the overall plot, and the romance that eventually occurs is HEAVILY tied to both, which makes it very complex and meaningful within the text by the time of resolution. Modern fandom, as I've seen it, can't really handle much complexity in relationships, much less complexity wherein one party grievously and remorselessly harms another before the relationship even begins.

Yeah, the fact that the personal decisions in the books almost ALWAYS have a political dimension is already too complex for a lot of internet culture, and then when it comes to judging a woman for the personal/political? yikes.
