Well, you're totally wrong. For one thing, it's not actually that uncommon for things that happen at night to be fairly well-lit, for instance if there's a full moon. For another thing, film noir lighting is often at its best when it uses chiaroscuro effects where you have extremely dark and extremely dark lighting in the same frame, and it's certainly capable of being truly dark when it wants to be truly dark. And really, ultimately, why is realism the be-all end-all in the first place? The fact that film noir is strongly stylized is one of the best things about it.

But all that said, taste is taste.

Also when there is a moon and snow on the ground. It really *does* give the luster of mid day, or pretty close. Anyway, it's bright.
