We are, too, but nobody in this fucking state (or, at least, where i am) is taking any of this seriously and I just want to kick people.

Yup. I've cancelled my plans for stepping back into a theatre at this point, or basically doing anything else involving having a life (which I was looking forward to). Not with these variants spreading faster than the current wildfires, hell no. And I'll be surprised if my boss doesn't tell me to resume remote work shortly after we get back into the office.

I personally think any company that did well via remote work should just downsize and have a damn kiosk or something - a reception desk and a single office/conference space and be done. It's obvious remote work WORKS. Idiots.

I work in just such an environment (web dev, so only difference between office and home is that you get to have comfortable surroundings at home for the low low price of having to log into a VPN if you want to update something on the servers) and my WFH status was pre-pandemic because my stupid body hasn't worked right for ten years, but everyone else had to go back to the office two days ago.

I expect that to last till maybe next week, given how cases are on the rise and there are so many breakthrough cases among the vaccinated who are actually still getting tested (and most of them won't be caught because they're asymptomatic and not being tested).

So much work spacing cubes and putting up partitions to try to get my coworkers unnecessarily back in the office, and what was the point of that? Two weeks where the big bosses could look over their shoulders?
