113. I do much the same thing with "Bad Wolf."

126. But! If Russia was anything like what you're picturing, then I would actually have to read Hetalia! We can't have that!

147. I couldn't get past the first chapter, I hated him so much. From what I'd heard about the story, I expected him to start off unstable but relatively humane and gradually devolve into power-crazed madness. But, nope, he was a cold-blooded monster from the very beginning, which is just not something I can stomach in a protagonist.

151. Um, no. Parent-child incest has squicky consent issues that yaoi just doesn't. It's more comparable to automatically hating anything dub-con.

166. That... that should not be so appealing to me.

But... I mean... Villainess!slash! With boobs and guns and cold-blooded evil! And the best part is they would absolutely hate it.

I feel so dirty now. D:

169. Okay, I have been hearing so much about this, and I finally have to ask: What the Hell is it? It's a movie with lots of gore and music, that much I've picked up on, but beyond that I have no idea.

171. I still don't see how Zutara was a crackship. Highly unlikely to turn out canon, yes, but still somewhat plausible. I mean, I prefer crackships in that fandom, so I think I know what I'm talking about. Tokko. Azuki. Tyzula. Suki/Sokka/Toph OT3. These are crackships. Zutara, not so much.

Doing it Wrong: I used to feel exactly the same way, and not too long ago. Then I realized that a.) it was by no means true of all slash pairings, b.) it was just as true of many het pairings, and c.) I did most of the things I accused slash fans of with my favorite femslash pairings. Yaoi still isn't my cup of tea and, as per Sturgeon's law, 90% of it is crap (which, given how widespread it is, comes out to a whole lot of terrible buttsex fic). But while I may still complain from time to time about how much more popular than yuri it is, I'm overall a lot more accepting these days.

EX. ACT. LY.

I watched the anime, and I think it was either episode one or two when he decided that, seeing as he was smarter than average, he had every right to kill people at random, because that was 'just'.

If I wanted a story about an inhuman monster of a serial killer who thinks he's god, I'll look up CrimeLibrary.

That's... pretty much it.
Kinda like Rocky Horror. People seem to either adore it or hate it. =P

It's a musical set in the future where the most powerful person is a guy who owns a company that finances organ transplants and elective cosmetic surgery, which became a big thing after some plague or something wiped out some unspecified immense percentage of humanity by causing massive organ failure. As a result, most people are now not whatever they were originally born looking like, and there's a huge black market culture of people addicted to a painkiller developed by this company to let people handle all that surgery. The company employs Repo(ssession) men who are legally allowed to corner you in a dark alley and hack out your organs if you don't pay up. Oh and the owner of this company is dying and his three kids are all bonkers. Paris Hilton plays herself, Sarah Brightman sucks out loud as per usual, Anthony Stewart Head is pretty much the shining talent, and there's this Graverobber guy who is made of sex in leather boots.

woo!

Ah, thank you. That sounds... interesting.

It was a decent way to pass time with my girlfriend and kid and nothing better to do. ^_^

iono, maybe it's because i'm so detached from people, but i really can not see the power dynamics argument; i can understand if the person is the easily coerced kind but then you have consent issues with everything.

besides, it's fiction, if author says 'he totally is 100% wanting it no issues here' then what's the problem?

Think, for a second, about how much legal power a parent has over their minor child. Now think, for another second, about how desperately most kids want their parents to be happy with them. And about the opportunity parents have to mold their kids' worldviews from the time they're very young. And about how difficult it would be for a kid to remove themselves physically from their parent, if they live together (yes, I know this last one doesn't apply to the fandom in the secret, but bear with me). It's about as enormous of a power imbalance as you can possibly have.

besides, it's fiction, if author says 'he totally is 100% wanting it no issues here' then what's the problem?

For some people that just makes it worse, because of the implication that it can actually be that way. I sometimes like reading non-con, but the moment the story starts to veer into "But she totally enjoyed it, so that makes it okay!" territory, I get squicked and hit the back button. Fiction has power, you know. Think of how acceptance of homosexuality in fandom has shaped some fans' perceptions of it in real life.

Not that I'm saying that fans aren't allowed to like incest. I myself enjoy Dahlia/Iris art and fic, because they're both just so gorgeous and deliciously messed up. I just don't like the implication that automatically disliking incest pairings is as close-minded as automatically disliking slash, especially given the implications it has out here in the real world, where anti-gay scare tactics include conflating homosexuality and incest.

Okay, so I just reread that and realized that I used the word "implication" way more times than necessary, including twice in one sentence. >_

That's what I don't get either! I mean, I went into the ship myself content with no canon and, at the most, manips. That's why I went just as crazy as any other Zutarian when the NYCC trailer came out last year with the hug as well as the finale. I was hoping that maybe there would be a hope for canon (or at least a love triangle :>), even if it never played out. It didn't, but I got over it (it's the SDCC thing that pissed me off, tbh). That and I ship crack in damn near every fandom I'm in, so like I've really cared about canon anyway. XD
