Re: Weekend Plans
(Anonymous) 2021-07-24 01:44 am (UTC)(link)Thanks for the news! I was kind of worried that your bunny would have passed before the vet appointment. That's like my worst fear tbh.
I know how awful giving meds and syringe feeding can be but at least there is something you can do to save him, so it's not that bad.
Weirdly enough, my bunny doesn't really put up a fuss for his meds but syringe feeding is hell. Last time I had to, I realised he had discovered he could spit it out or refuse to swallow.
Let's hope your bun is more cooperative than mine and that you have the spoons to do something fun - you deserve it!
Re: Weekend Plans
(Incidentally, one of the meds is indeed panacur. ;))
Already he seems to be doing a little better than he was this morning - earlier I caught him sitting up mostly straight except for the tilted head and eating some pellets on his own. So I sat back down and posted excitedly on Facebook, then got up and found him drinking from his bowl on his own. :D
What really worried me more than the idea of him passing before the vet visit was the idea of him passing during the vet visit. Due to my immune system wonkiness, there's a risk of particularly bad reactions to vaccines, so I had to do curbside service and just hand the carrier off at the door to people he doesn't know. He doesn't like people he doesn't know. If anyone but me is in my house, he hides. :/ I knew this was going to be rough on him, and he had to spend three hours while he already wasn't feeling well surrounded by strangers. If that was how he had spent his last hours, I would have felt horrible for subjecting him to it.
But thank goodness, he came through okay (if groggy because he was so stressed out they had to give him anti-anxiety meds in order to do a blood draw). And now maybe I can finally get some sleep tonight. ...If I didn't overdo the coffee. I have been running on coffee and bunny-mom stubbornness since 5am. :P

(Anonymous) 2021-07-24 02:57 am (UTC)(link)I hope you can sleep better. The whole thing must have been hard on you, emotionally and physically speaking.
Anyway, just wanted to say your bunnies are lucky to have you. There are so many people who won't take care properly of their rabbits or other small animals.
Re: Weekend Plans
And yeah, last day and a half was rough for both of us. And it'll probably be rough for awhile and I'm hesitant to leave his side, but just now without my help he hopped across the room without falling, to get some more water from his dish without bobbling and getting his whole face wet, then hopped back to one of his favorite lounging spots to settle down. I will take it.
