I feel that. To me, the difference is in the journey. I can know how a story is going to go and still enjoy it if the writing is good. There's some comfort in predictability, especially when I'm tired or just low on spoons.

+1 Same reason I have comfort books/shows I return to over and over. Sometimes it's nice to just enjoy the ride, especially if it's a ride I enjoy.

Yes! Or the writing expresses something about the story in a new or refreshing way, or just articulates something really well (especially when it’s something I’ve had trouble finding words for).

Exactly. You can give me the tropiest story in the book, but if the writing is good and I like the characters, I'll still enjoy it even if I can predict every plot element before it actually happens.
