Not OP. I had to do some googling but I found this series, which I think is what OP is referring to:

It's considered a middle-grade fantasy classic. If the author of this new book was going to plagiarize, she made a really stupid choice of books to do it to. This isn't going to fly under most radars.

Yeah it's not as widely known today as I'd like (because it's a lovely series) and as I said, I'm fairly sure it's not really intentional plagiarism but I'm baffled not even her editor or publisher noticed (if it's not self published that is).
