I never really though the Disney Princess label was about empowerment, at least I never associatd the line with it. But I hate that the women who are truly empowering from their films aren't included.

I was in Disney World a couple months ago (yes, I'm ridiculous) and the HIGHLIGHT of my trip was the Mulan I saw in the China pavilion at Epcot, and the fact that she was totally game with doing a silly "warrior pose" with me for the photo. The degree to which she's completely neglected just depresses the hell out of me. (Though I did see a little girl dressed as Pocahontas when I was there in addition to the eight billions Belles/Snow Whites/Sleeping Beauties, which was a little cheering!)

I don't see how ALL of them aren't "truly empowering." Belle is very intelligent and determined, Cinderella is kind and hopeful, Snow White is compassionate and caring towards all creatures, Jasmine is assertive, witty and self-assured, Ariel is independent, brave and curious, and Sleeping Beauty...well, I mean, she's asleep the whole time, but at least she's nice while she's awake, right?

Why are only certain women considered "truly" empowering in your eyes? Even though some of the Disney princesses are often stereotyped as being "less capable" than the others, they all have qualities that people should strive for, in my mind. Or maybe kindhearted makes you a worthless pushover nowadays?

Honestly, I dislike the Disney Princess line greatly. I would rather them empahasize the fact they were heroines as opposed to princesses, (why are they only shown in their ball gowns?) And I have problems with certain gender elements in their films, nor do I find Snow White all that interesting.

Out of all of them, Jasmine is the only one that I really found empowering, but I feel like the whole line emphasizes their abilities to look pretty as opposed to what they are capable of.

Um, I never said that none of those traits or bad, or aren't things to strive for, but within the context of the stories, I wasn't too happy with how most of those characters turned out.
