Maybe it comes from being European, but my experience of royalty - both present and especially past - has always been that they're locked away and, if they travel, it's rarely and it's isolated and heavily guarded.

So if Belle's a princess, she'd be popping out babies and sitting quietly in the castle under guard, in my experience. =\

Also, yeah, he needs a name. And a better human design too, really. Yeesh.

His name apparently is Adam. They don't mention this in the movie but apparently this is canon? (I only discovered this like three weeks ago, haha.)

He actually has a name? It bothered me that they never called him anything but "beast" so for many years now I have thought of him as "Sebastian." just seems like a good name for a prince.

Yes, and seeing how you're European and therefore an expert on royalty and all that, mind telling me how many princes have been turned into monsters? How many of them have lived in lands filled with that kind of magic?

Oh, wait. It's a fairy tale. It doesn't represent real life.

Five bucks says they went on adventures. It's a sad thing that you think that just because Belle got married she'd lose her sense of wanderlust. She'd drag him out there, whether he liked it or not.

In the OP's defense, even fantasy settings that are based on European...styles and mores, I guess are the words, tend to follow that kind of idea of royalty.

I agree that it's very unlikely that Belle did change all that much after marrying, but I have seen the OP's issue raised before--since the movie's ending is so close to the conventional fairy tale happily-ever-after, it's not hard to get the feeling that the movie has just dumped the theme it's had all through about Belle being a different kind of heroine.

The theme was not to judge a person based on their appearance, and that theme is consistent in Belle. Gaston decides because she's beautiful she must be vacuous and want all the things he does, but she is intelligent, capable, and as different from the townspeople as her father or Beast himself. In spite of her being so much smaller than Beast, she can stand up to him and rescue him.

The thrust of Belle's longing was to live a life that was more than what she saw in the village, and she does. She doesn't end up shackled to Gaston being seen and not heard, popping out babies; she's with someone who understands her, appreciates her, and respects her desires. It's not the same as a conventional fairy tale ending because we know all this; conventional would have her married to someone she met once and barely spoke to (Cinderella, Little Mermaid, Snow White, etc.) not someone proven to put her first and to love her for who she is.
