It does sound a little racist, to be honest, but I understand where you're coming from--having just one member of the ensemble be stylistically different is a bit unsettling in an OCD kind of way. On the other hand, cutting Jasmine out would leave us with a different kind of unsettling, so I'm glad she makes the cut even if it does leave us with the problem of just one non-ballgown.

I don't know the official Disney Princess lineup, but it seems like they could fix the problem by putting in some of their other girls with non-European styles (although I gather from comments that they've been excluded). Or even do something different with Ariel--her Atlantean heritage doesn't really include clothes, but maybe she'd prefer a more pants-ish outfit rather than hiding her new legs under the skirt.

Or even a sleeker, fishtail-cut skirt for Ariel, to further break up the ballgown silhouette. Hello symbolism!

That would be awesome. Would someone please contact the Disney art department and get them on this?

(Come to think of it, she DOES come out of the ocean with a sleeker design than what she gets in most of the Disney Princess stuff.)

The thing is Mulan and Pocahantas ARE technically disney princesses (though Mulan being one pisses me off, she's not really a princess, she isn't at all, royalty, she doesn't marry royalty, she isn't even the daughter of a chief sort of royalty, meanwhile Meg who IS royalty doesn't get included, she has a different sort of dress! though I suppose they just needed a token asian), they just never make the line-up because I guess they're less popular than the frilly ones? I mean personally I think Jasmine, Belle, Pocahontas, Meg, and Esmerelda are the interesting princesses. Snow white's a dumbass (YOUR PRINCE ISN'T COMING RESCUE YOURSELF, BITCH, STOP GIVING 4 YEAR OLDS UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS ABOUT WHAT THEY CAN DO WITH THEIR LIFE), Cinderella's stupid (sure I'll marry someone in one night!), while Ariel has a brain, her decision to leave her entire family behind for a man she's known for three days is a bit bella-swan like, and don't get me started on how anti-feminist and stupid Sleeping Beauty is. Ugh.

Wow. This was rantier than I expected.
