Does anything happen in the 3rd Iron Man that affects future movies in any way? I can't think of anything.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-29 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It should have, and yet....

(Anonymous) 2021-07-29 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It explained Tony's motivation for Ultron and showed him having the shrapnel removed. It's an important character piece.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-29 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it? Having the shrapnel removed didn't change anything. And the actual big character changes (destroying the iron man suits) are completely negated. Hell, they couldn't even let Pepper keep some powers.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-29 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
+1, it wasn't his motivation for Ultron at allllll

(Anonymous) 2021-07-30 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
It should have been the end of his arc but unfortunately he was in 5 more movies.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-30 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
There's been a misunderstanding. I wasn't saying removing the shrapnel was his motivation for building Ultron. I was saying that there were two important things that happened continuity wise in this movie regarding Tony: 1) showing his PTSD stemming from the events of Avengers that lead to him working on the Ultron program and 2) him having the shrapnel remove from his heart.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-30 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
You're right and you should say it.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-30 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think anyone was connecting the shrapnel to Ultron, but more saying that in IM3, his PTSD was recognized and he ended up taking steps to address it in a more healthy way (destroying the suits and seeking productive help) only for AoU to open with the exact same problem, except this time being presented as totally logical instead of emotional/personal.

It gives a little implied backstory to Pepper showing up in her own Iron Man style armor in End Game? Since we saw her being super-powered in IM3, and literally shows her wearing one of Tony’s suits. (Or a suit Tony made for her? I’m not sure that was ever specified.)

I like IM3, but the Pepper Potts scenes were my least favorite and I’d have preferred to see her show up in a suit in End Game out of nowhere. But technically it did have an effect.

How is this a secret? I haven't watched CA and Ant movies as I don't care for the characters. This doesn't feel like a secret.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-29 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ssshhh, it's fine.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-30 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Some people get really riled up when you admit you haven't seen all the movies. Or that there are ones you don't like. It's great that everyone in your circle is understanding but not everyone has that.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-30 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was like "ok...?" I've watched all of it (and prefer IM3 to IM2), but do people really care if someone watched every single of MCU movies...? why would they?

(Anonymous) 2021-07-29 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I literally fell asleep trying to watch the 2nd one. That rarely happens for me.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-29 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
If I could unwatch any movie it would be Spiderman 2.

Yeah, that completionist urge got me.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-29 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I have watched both of them, but yeah they're not great. I like Iron Man, but his solo movies aren't great. I've got a feeling the same goes for Spider-man.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-30 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I hated Iron Man 3, and I kind of liked Spider-Man 2, but have no desire to watch it again. So if it's possible to curb your completionism for those two movies, I would recommend not watching them.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-30 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Iron Man 3 is complete toilet, so you ain't missing anything.

I've hit my peak. It's not like I don't enjoy MCU content, but as much fun as Wandavision was I really do feel like I watch MCU content as a chore more than anything. I've watched from the beginning so I keep watching, but by now, as good as the content is I just....am not invested.

I get this. I’m not as into it as I used to be and haven’t seen the last Spider-Man or Black Widow yet. I will eventually because I always watch everything eventually out of habit.

WandaVision and Loki (not so much FATWS) kinda gave me a bump of investment again but when I thought about it I started to feel like Loki was one long set-up for the next films (that he probably definitely won’t even be in) and that kinda brought my enthusiasm down a notch again.

I'm ambivalent on IM 3, but it had no useful affect on the MCU, so you're fine. frankly, most solo movies have little effect on group movies or other solo movies so you would have be fine anyway.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-30 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, we're opposites.

IM3 is really good, IMO, but I found FFH frustrating. Tony and Peter are easily my two favorite MCU characters, but FFH was way too full of plot holes and character inconsistencies (even by MCU standards), and I kind of hated the light, funny tone in the wake of Endgame. Like, I get that the decision to make FFH lighter and more comedic was a deliberate effort to give viewers some respite after Endgame. But it just didn't work for me. FFH should've been dark as fuck, IMO.

DA

I couldn't watch FFH after Endgame. :(
