(Anonymous) 2021-08-02 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)But the socially acceptable stuff also sounds kind of... bad and toxic? It's one thing for fans to encourage each other to support their fave by buying products, etc. (a bit weird, but hey, it's their money) but the fact that they've also got the power to do the opposite and actually hurt someone's career over something they had zero control over is insane. (But that's more about the whole Xiao Zhan thing, not so much Wang Yibo.)

(Anonymous) 2021-08-02 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)Yeah the excessive shilling of whatever appliance/book/clothing/etc is not something I understand, but that's whatever to me, fans can do what they want with their cash to support their faves. But the actual career damage companies will try to inflict on stars is crazy, like the main one is dating rumors, which in C-net is a pretty big deal as they have a similar thing to K-idol fandom where they want their talent to appear 'available' to their fans(if this is applicable, because a few actors I like are married and it's not harmed their careers). But others go as far as claiming an actor/singer to be against the CCP or support something that could get them into actual legal trouble and it's fucking nuts.
I'm not into either of those dudes, but yeah that was fucked up. Like, it's celeb stanning taken to a whole terrifying level.
