I like you. You have a brain. If you'd care to, sometime, do feel welcome to E-Mail me at friarsghost@gmail.com, or friend me. Though I won't notice you've friended me unless you E-Mail or reply to an unlocked entry, and I won't friend you back unless you explain why. :P It's just my thing with everyone on LJ.

And yes, I do have recommendations!

~~~Dante and Virgil in Dante's Inferno are a quintessential platonic t'hy'la coupling. The Dorothy L. Sayers translation is the one that speaks most vividly to me, but with translations, I find it sometimes wise to try more than one if the first try doesn't suit you.
~~~Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and D'Artagnan in The Three Musketeers is a rare t'hy'la group with more than two. Their story is quite a good one to read -- adventurous, poignant, beautiful.

~~~In the Elfquest graphic novel series by Wendy and Richard Pini, the theme of chief Cutter's soulbound brotherhood with Skywise is a central theme. There's even an entire volume dedicated to it -- volume 8b: In All But Blood. I do recommend you read the first 8 or so books in the series first, which will give you foundation for their relationship with one another and with their tribe. After some number, the artist Wendy for some reason stopped drawing the comics and they inexplicably hired a bunch of kindergardeners to scrawl their aesthetically revolting crap instead. This series takes a little time and focus to get the best out of.
~~~In Notre Dame de Paris by Victor Hugo, it could be argued that Pierre Gringoire and Esmeralda are sort of a t'hy'la-patterned pair, a rare male-female one at that, but the story doesn't go into much detail.

~~~Sam Gamgee and Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings are the QUINTESSENTIAL t'hy'la couple.
~~~In the play Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard, it would seem that the two title characters are also, though it's not explored as a major theme. It just is.

~~~CS Lewis wrote a wonderful book called The Four Loves. The chapter on "Friendship" is a must-read. Absolutely essential. Make this your first stop. If you take any single recommendation from me, take this one.
~~~In The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin, Genly and Estraven certainly qualify by the end of the book. There is some reference to the two of them considering a sexual coupling at one point, but rationally determining not to; it's not clear to what extent they may have been emotionally romantically attracted to one another by the end of the book.

~~~Rat and Mole in The Wind in the WIllows by Kenneth Grahame (and sequels by William Horwood, beautifully faithful to the original work).
~~~I dare suggest that the Mad Hatter and March Hare were a t'hy'la couple. Lord knows whether the Dormouse was included. Carroll's text is geared towards the absurd, not the phylosophical.

There's a few for you. If I think of more when I'm not dead of exhaustion, I'll tell you. Really do E-Mail me or something, I'd love to explore this with you further. :)

Frodo and Sam, hadn't though about that but it's true. More so in the books than the movies but you can see it clearly even there.

Elfquest sounds interesting, though I've no idea how graphic novels much. Do you start with the archive volumes or the Grand Quest? Shall have to look it up.

And I shall e-mail you and friend you, though you may not be impressed with my latest post.
